60+ CLUB Relocation - WHAT's HAPPENING ? - THE FACTS                              September 2018
We expect to leave our existing building in mid 2020 and will then move to our own dedicated space within Wave Leisure. Other options were explored but this was BY FAR the best solution available to us.
IN THE MEANTIME WE WILL CARRY ON AS NORMAL
Our lease entitles Lewes District Council to demolish the building for re-development so LET'S FOCUS on making the most of this opportunity.
Wave are adding more space, bigger café, improved toilets PLUS a ground floor area for the exclusive use of The 60 + Club.
YES our hall will be smaller than current BUT IN ADDITION TO OUR OWN HALL Wave will reserve some of their space for our exclusive use for those sessions which need extra space such as table tennis, keep fit and exercise and dance.
Our hall will have enough space for our other needs, and, can be divided into two sections when needed. The Snooker Room will be larger than current and still have TWO tables. There will be a storage area and a small kitchen plus a large Disabled Toilet.
WITH OUR BEST INTERESTS AT HEART
We meet regularly with Lewes District Council who have kept our club fully informed and involved at every step of the way. They have stressed their commitment to supporting our club and our needs in moving to our new home.
Their architects have listened to our suggestions and modified their plans to suit our club.
We have also been assured by Wave that they are keen to welcome us and have given a commitment to work closely with us in partnership as planning proceeds.
BENEFITS of THE NEW LOCATION
A New Modern environment with Improved Financial stability.
More flexible availability and the freedom to open for longer and at weekends if we so wish!
Our own small kitchen for drinks and snacks plus a large café just a few steps away from our door with a take away service.
No more dodgy heating system. No more outside steps. No more worries about security, vandals on the roof PLUS improved parking.
Plus on “our” doorstep access to a shop, doctors and medical services.
WHAT IF OUR BUILDING HAD BEEN LEFT OUT OF THE PLANS?
We would struggle to find sufficient funding to maintain our aging building and as our running costs increased each year (the last estimate to replace our heating system was £13,000 +) this would impact directly on our finances, including membership fees,
The move to our new location in Wave will help secure the future of the club. We will continue to work towards the best possible outcome and keep you informed throughout.
